Safety tips for setting off fireworks

1.Keep a safe distance. Ensure spectators, especially children and pets, are well away from the launch area.

2.Follow instructions. Read and adhere to all labels and guidance provided with the fireworks.

3.Wear protective gear.​ Consider safety glasses and avoid loose clothing that could catch fire.

4.Light one at a time.​ Never ignite multiple fireworks simultaneously, and move back quickly after lighting.

5.Use a stable, flat surface.​ Place fireworks on solid ground away from buildings, dry grass, or flammable materials.

6.Keep water nearby.​ Have a bucket of water or a hose ready in case of fire or misfires.

7.Never relight a "dud."​ Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak malfunctioning fireworks in water before disposal.

8.Avoid alcohol.​ Do not handle fireworks if you have consumed alcohol or drugs that impair judgment.

9.Dispose safely.​ Soak used fireworks in water before putting them in a trash bin.
